Does not work on Mac OSX; Fun problem solving game
This software is NOT Mac compatible, despite saying so. Two minutes after running it on our Mac, the game froze. Turning the Mac off and then back on didn't quit the game; we had to Force Quit the game, which took some time [option+command+esc]. HOWEVER - we then installed it on our PC and it runs very well.

This game is fun and enjoyable. It probably appeals to kids ages 7 to 12 (give or take), and I certainly enjoy sitting down with a cup of coffee and playing for awhile. When one of kids sit down to play, eventually the other kids look over their shoulder and everyone gets involved in the "I Spy" type sections and puzzle solving.

There are interesting, cluttered-full museum rooms, with detailed graphics, and there's a task for each room - finding a way to escape, collecting items, etc. The item collection is very similar to an "I Spy" game. Other rooms require problem solving skills. The game reuses rooms for different puzzles, which is fun. Once a player figures out how to navigate the rooms, the task icons alone are helpful, so it works for younger players, although there is a need to read for instructions and clues. The concept of being trapped (and the mom and daughter separated during the earthquake aftermath) might be mildly worrisome for young players. The sound can be a little annoying so we just turn that off.

There's a story narrative that's a flat cartoon with voice narration & dialog boxes, which sets up the earthquake story and gives game instructions. There is a "Skip" logo on these dialog pages which doesn't skip the whole screen but only moves along the dialog. Players can skip these dialog sections without compromising game play.

There's a map that shows progress through the game, and which rooms have been "escaped", and a % box shows game progress. Returning to a saved game is easy and the game takes you right to the map to see where you left off.

This is a fun (even when the problem solving gets difficult!) game - just don't try and run it ona Mac!

Mortimer Beckett and the Secrets of Spooky Manor

Lowest Price we can find: $28.50

Mortimer Beckett and the Secrets of Spooky Manor is a new hidden object game. In a bit of a twist, sometimes hidden objects you are searching for are broken up into several pieces. There is also an integrated storyline and adventure which makes solving puzzles superbly fun and more than just a seek and find type game. We are looking forward to this spooky manor game. This has turned into a fan favorite game and is now available in the retail market. While we are hoping for a sequel, none have been confirmed. Mortimer Beckett is one of the best hidden objects games in quite a long time. You'll love this adventure for sure with the great artwork and fun story.

Hunt the halls of Spooky Manor for hidden objects, return the items totheir rightful places and solve a series of brain-bending puzzles to get to the bottom of this eerie mystery. Only those with a keen eye for detail will discover the answers hidden in Spooky Manor.

Only if you have a big TV...
This game was fun, but hard and short lived. Our TV is a standard 32" I think, and you aren't looking for objects, but for FRAGMENTS of objects. like 5 pieces to a dart. I think this would have been more fun if we had a larger television. It was an eye strain from the sofa though. We finished the game in one day, though. It's a great game to just be doing nothing in particular. Not too much brainwork, and fun for kids and adults.

NASCAR detective!
What a fun game. Loaded easily, funcitioned smoothly, and after you play through to "solve" each mystery, you can go back over and over again for "best time and score."

Graphics are great, and the rooms are like those in Ravenhearst. The added wrinkle is solving the crime with clues you're given along the way.

The puzzles are challenging too, even if you've done them before, and the items move from place to place in each room so no matter how many times you replay the game you still have to hunt for stuff.

All in all it was tons of fun

Learn to use advanced techniques used by real paranormal investigators, and uncover an ancient mystery and treasure. But, beware, not all of the towns residents will help in your mission, whether they are alive or dead. Inspiration from the haunting works of Charles Dickens, M.R. James, Arthur Conan Doyle, and E.F. Benson combines with real ghost-hunting gadgets to bring this frightening story to bone-chilling life. Success or failure in locating wandering spirits depends on your skill as an investigator. Placing motion detectors, night vision cameras, and temperature gauges correctly will reveal a location's haunted past, and expose terrifying apparitions. With nerves of steel, and wits to match, you will soon discover long lost secrets, previously known only to the dead!
Realistic and integrated puzzles to solve A scary, and surprising, story by Jonathan Boakes A chilling soundtrack, specially created for the title ESRB Rated RP for Rating Pending

A bit spooky
Great game to play at night in a darkened room with headphones! The Black & White game play was a great surprise, it adds to the ambience of the game. Not too difficult to play, lots of interesting characters. For you feline lovers beware, some of the town kitties will suffer awfull demises (no real kitties were hurt! only animated ones), my wife did get a little upset at one point BUT she did finish the game and made sure that the evil villain got his dues! Hope to see new titles from this author.

This game is quite interesting and a lot of fun. It's not a fast action game. It's a search for the hidden objects and work jigsaw type puzzles. I'm quite happy with this game!
