The Science of Ripping Off Parents Here's a quick primer for parents looking to buy science kits for the early grade school set (i.e., K - 3rd). Every science kit, including this one, basically tells you to mix vinegar with baking soda and "Voila!" you made a volcano. Nevermind that in later years some kid will go hiking in the crater of Mt. St. Helen's during an eruption thinking it is just harmless cooking products. Use safe chemicals to make scientific changing colors? You guessed it -- food dye. All these kits basically include a set of plastic test tubes and instructions telling you to open your kitchen cupboards. Back in the Middle Ages people who sold this kind of hokum for the price it now commands were called alchemists. They eventually went out of business. Buy the kid a Suzukie violin or a football helmet instead.

Interactive Planetarium Great product aside from the fact that the computer voice has an accent (British I think) which is a little annoying because my 4 year old tries to mimic it. Probably an attempt at sounding more scientific which is even more funny with temperature in °F instead of °C.
Great learning for the whole family! We have this inetractive toy in the space and United States version. This one seems to have the widest age appeal. My four year old just mimics the facts she hears the toy say, my eight year old has learned somebsic interesting fatcts about the world and even us adults have been surprised at what we did and didn't know.
The toy has a map of the world and you can play in several modes. You can choose to hear facts about the different contintents and countries or be quized.
This is a great fun way to learn geography and facts about other countries.
I recommend this around the world over the space model.

Great slimey time! My 9 year old son got this for Christmas. He had requested a "science set", so this was Santa's interpretation. I was a little scared that it was going to be a flop or that it was not going to be what he was thinking, but he loves it! We were mixing up slime on Christams morning! The directions are very easy to follow. Everything you need is in the kit. There are alternative directions for mixing one of the main ingredients that you use for all the slimes that calls for rubbingalcohol, but other than that, it has it all. Everything is clearly labeled. So far we've made the magnetic slime and the color changing slime and I've been very impressed. Very fun, easy and educational.
Editorial ReviewScientific Explorer'sseries of great science kits includes Fun with Your Dog. It's a nifty way to learn about animal intelligence through fun experiments. Perform ultrasonic sound testing with a bona fide dog whistle. Put together a pair of "dog glasses" (says the manufacturer: "See the colors your dog sees..."). Conduct a "personality interview" to discover your dog's temperament. The taste-testing experiment, which features a kit for baking delicious dog cookies, will reward your pooch's patience and cooperation. Scientific Explorer kits are both fun and educational and have won several awards. --Chris Livesay

My son loves this... My 5 year old got this for Christmas from his grandparents. He loves to sit and build all sorts of stuff so grandparents thought he might like to build something that has an end result... they were right. Because of his age, he did need a bit of help getting started, but has done a few of the projects on his own already. Great gift for children who can sit, follow written directions and work well with their hands...

Cute but expensive The toy was pretty expensive for what it is. The description isn't at all misleading, but I guess I was hoping for more.
