Amazon.comSuper Trouper is generally considered Abba's finest album. The overheated disco flourishes of Voulez-Vous were dropped and the sequencing was very nearly perfect. What's more, silly lyrics metamorphose into things of wrenching beauty. The overall tone is rather somber--the unraveling of the band members' relationships underscores every track--but as usual Abba turn melancholy into uplifting pop music. This digipack version of the 1981 album includestwo extra songs. "Put on Your White Sombrero" was recorded during the Super Trouper sessions but was replaced on the album by the title track; it's in the band's Spanish vein and comes with a throbbing synthesizer hook. "Elaine," meanwhile, was the B-side of "The Winner Takes It All" single. An uptempo number, "Elaine" is far from being a throwaway. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

ABBA Super Trouper Super Trouper is considered by many to be ABBA's best album. By 1980, ABBA's lyrics had become highly personal as evidenced by their number 1 hit The Winner Takes It All. I like The Piper, a relatively unknown song. It shows the power of music over an audience. Is Napoleon the piper? Is the piper the spirit of music which ABBA is following? That the piper seduced everybody suggests that he may not be so nice. Sweden stayed out of World War II. Norway, Frida's home land, was overrun by the Germans. In which case, wemight think of the piper as Adolf Hitler. The fire in his eyes! We have all seen tapes of Hitler's harangues at Nazi rallies. Weapons of fear were Communism, the Jews and the specter of depression haunting the world in the 1930s. Such horrors were something baby boomers found hard to fathom. The Piper is a classic piece.

Under rated talent In Australia were I live, Abba unfortunately have been tagged as "disposable 70's pop" or "the group fashion thankfully forgot". This public opinion changed quickly in the winter of 1992 when Polygram re-issued the single "Dancing queen" on CD. Wow! I felt great. I was no longer the only Abba fan in Australia. (well I thought I was) Popularity of the group exploded onto the music seen again and by the mid nineties, Abba-fever was BACK!.
I liked all their albums - however Super Trouper stands out from the rest. From the opening title cut "super Trouper" the album kicks in immediately with it's polished early 80's harmonic pop. The great songs keep coming with "The winner take it all" "On and on and on" "Andante Andante" "Me and I" "Our last summer" "The piper" "Lay all your love on me" (best track) and "the way old friends do". Out of all my CD's, this one would be played the most. Listen carefully through the album, there is a certain synth they use that give's the album a special kind of feel... .... ....
On a finishing note-this album will neverfade with time. Thank God For CD!!!

Amazon.comAbba's 1981 swan song is appropriately touched by intimations of loss; The Visitors certainly contains nothing as breezy as "Does Your Mother Know." Far from the listless meanderings of a group on its way out, however, the album is alive with emotion and creativity. The title track fuses a melody reminiscent of the Beatles Indian explorations with a smartly done synthesizer arrangement typical of the disc as a whole. (They could've been the Human League!) Similarly moody cuts like "Soldiers" and "One of Us" help make this that rare thing, an Abba record suited for lonely late nights. ABBA The Visitors The Visitors was ABBA's last studio album, and there is a sombre mood which sets it apart. But it is a true masterpiece! One song in particular transcends pop music. I Let The Music Speak explores the nature of creativity itself. It seesthe composer as a medium through which music passes. It assumes music (art) to have a pre-existence and that we merely tune into it. The song hints of music's capacity to evoke emotions and to enhance reality. Music reconciles. Note the imagery. Streets take the artist from the city into the country. Dry leaves imply death. She is lost in a valley, a depression, blind. Her inspiration is gone. Sleep, death, writer's block. Music rescues her. Again, sexual imagery. Music is her lover. "I take it to me and let it flow through me." Music is life itself, the voice of God! This is ABBA's most elegant song. Painting, poetry and music merge.
