Amazon.comPrepare to experience an evolution in the first person shooter. Originally one of the most popular titles for the Nintendo 64, the Turok franchise has returned with a roar; this time springing on to the Next Generation gaming platform. Armed with a rich, all-new story line, as well as features and gameplay that will remind players why they fell for the genre in the first place, players will come away knowing why it is a good thing for humans that dinosaurs went extinct.
An FPS evolved
You don't want to cross Turok.
There's more than one way to skin a raptor.
Duel wielding against the Wolf Pack.
Solidier Bugs are as bad as dinos.
The Story You are Joseph Turok, once a member of Wolf Pack — the most savage, merciless black ops squad of its time. Now, you have been attached by special order to Whiskey Company, an elite commando team, for what should have been a simple mission: Capture and detain Roland Kane from his fortress on a worthless, backwater planet. Kane is an escaped war criminal, the once-legendary leader of Wolf Pack...and your former mentor. Unbeknownst to you and your team, Kane is in command of a secret paramilitary force funded by the Mendel-Gruman (M-G) Corporation. As Whiskey Company's ship approaches the planet, it is blasted out of the sky by Kane's troops. Suddenly, your simple mission isn't quite so simple. Even worse, it quickly becomes apparent that Mendel-Gruman scientists have been terraforming and genetically engineering the once-barren planet for accelerated evolution. The Trouble with Dinosaurs The trouble is that they like meat and that’s just what you are to them. So your number one rule is don’t get eaten. Far from cuddly, the genetically altered prehistoric beasts that Mendel-Gruman has unleashed on the landscape of the world you are dropped into come in all shapes, sizes. Although game developer, Propaganda Games, drew from Earth’s own fossil record, they also let their creative juices flow as they created the deadly fauna of the game. Just a few of the beasties players will have to deal with are:Velociraptors – Velociraptors are some of the most vicious and deadly predators on the planet. Beware, they can charge their prey, knocking them backwards and then mauling them with their deadly claws and teeth.Mini-Raptors – Despite their diminutive size, mini-raptors move quickly and often hunt in packs, making them a deadly enemy.Dilophosaurus – This large dinosaur is a mean carnivore with a huge appetite. It has a large crest on its head and can use its powerful tail to knock down enemies.Lurkers – Like a cross between a dinosaur and a powerful jungle cat, Lurkers prowl the jungle, climbing and positioning themselves on trees and rocks, always ready to pounce on its next prey.Soldier Bugs – These eight legged creatures look like the common scorpion, but they are much bigger and deadlier. They can be encountered in caves and other dark, enclosed areas on the planet. They are often seen in swarms, and due to their large size can easily overcome prey.T-Rex – The Mother of all dinosaurs, the T-Rex is the smartest and largest of all creature enemies on this terraformed planet. Turok and Whisky company will have many run-ins with the T-Rex throughout the campaign. In addition to these, other creatures also roam the jungles and caves of the planet, some carnivorous and others plant eaters, but all are dangerous. Underestimate them at your own risk.Strategy and Multiplayer Mayhem Although the real attention grabber in Turok are the dinosaurs, the most challenging combat in the game is essentially human on human. In these clashes the dinos serve as very dangerous obstacles. Even so, it’s best not to go dino crazy, so the best players should not only come to coexist with the ‘terrible lizards’ of this planet, but find a use for them. Through a combination of tactics players will learn how to use the single-minded feeding instinct of the dinosaurs against their human enemies, both real and AI. But be cautious. Your human opponents know the rules of engagement as well as you do and may very well use your own tactics against you.Regarding game modes, in addition to a single player mode utilizing engaging cinematic flashbacks and in-game interactions with non-playable characters to reveal the path that has brought Turok to the jungles of this alien world, players will also enjoy several raging online multiplayer modes. Including everything from four-player co-op play to 16 player matches in deathmatch and capture the flag modes, these online frag-fests are best enjoyed by spreading the action across the game’s seven in-game maps. Filled with a variety of terrain ranging from high exposed routes, to low lying paths and even lava covered volcano slopes, these maps and possible additional downloadable content, should add extensive hours of gameplay.Weapons – Quiet and Not So Quiet Kills True to its RPG roots Turok comes loaded with a large arsenal of weapons, but the real fun of this selection is its variety. Easily accessible from your controller’s D-Pad, available weapons are both low tech and modern, and range from the basic, but quite deadly survival knife and compound bow, all the way up to standard FPS favorites like chain guns, shotguns, duel-wield pistols and a rocket launcher. Learning to use all these at the proper time is also crucial. Beyond the addiction of taking down an enemy with nothing but a cold piece of steel, silence on the battlefield can be priceless, especially when there are raptors about that will come running at the slightest sound. But on the other hand a rocket launcher does come in handy in a pinch. In the end whether it’s taking on the game’s larger than life fauna or its unabashed old-school shooter roots, Turok is a sure bet to deliver for gamers yearning to get back to the good old days.
REVIEW
General Mindless Dinosaur-Slaying Fun Turok is sort of a space-marines-meets-Jurassic-Park story. In a futuristic world with high end weapons and armor, you're pitted against the raw muscle and razor-sharp teeth of meat-eating dinosaurs.
Really, the game is all about fun. It has nice graphics, but not nearly as stellar as other games out there. The scenery of black mountains and drifting clouds are pretty, but could be better. The character animations are all right, but sometimes clunky and clippy. The voices are all right, but sometimes get flat or cliched.
When it comes down to it, this is all about pitting yourself against dinosaurs with the best weapons you could imagine from various sci-fi shows. It's you against bit, sharp-toothed monsters of gigantic proportions. They are faster than you, stronger than you, there are lots of them out there. Can you hold your own against them?
The answer hopefully is yes. There are multiple levels of gameplay here, so you can start with the easier one if you haven't played these games before, or just dive into the killer-hard level if you enjoy a challenge. You'll be sneaking around, taking shelter behind jungle plants, plotting out the best place to lay your ambush.
Yes, there's a plotline of sort, with crosses and double-crosses. You get your hands on various weapons. Ironically, we tended to stick just with the knife, for silent, deadly kills. The other favorite weapon was the bow with a variety of arrow types.
The game is a good length and whether you enjoy it or not probably depends on whether the idea of blasting away at dinosaurs for hours is a fun thing to do. We did enjoy playing our way through it, but it was not one of the games that we kept on the active shelf to revisit for months afterwards.
If you're not a dinosaur / monster-slaying fan, it might be best to rent this one for a weekend and see how it appeals to you. That way you could get the dinosaur mashing out of your system if it's not your cup of tea - or get yourself completely hooked and decide to get one of your very own.

Turok Game was purchased for my grandson, he and his younger brother really enjoy playing this game. It was well worth buying.
What seemed at first to be a simple mission has turned into a deadly game of survival. You are Joseph Turok, an ex-member of Wolf Pack, the most savage, merciless black ops squad of its time. Now you have been given a special order from Whiskey Company, an elite commando team, to capture and detain Roland Kane from his fortress on a worthless, backwater planet. Kane is an escaped war criminal, the once-legendary leader of Wolf Pack...and your former mentor. But Kane is in command of a secret paramilitary force funded by the Mendel-Gruman (M-G) Corporation. When your ship approaches the planet, you are blasted out of the sky by Kane's troops. Now you are stranded in a dangerous world. Vicious prehistoric beasts of all shapes and sizes roam the terrain, attacking anything that moves. Your teammates are either killed or scattered. Ruthless M-G forces are hunting the ones who are not dead. You have no weapons. How will you survive?

Don't do it! This game sucks! If u like playing the same parts over and over again, then by allmeans buy this game. There are multiple times when u die and the game gets hung up somehow and ur in limbo and have to restart from an earlier point. There is no quick saves, even though the game has a button for it. The ending is practically impossible so if u like to finish games like I do, you will be spending almost as much time as it took u to play the entire game at the end just to finish it! Go buy Call of Duty 4 and be happy!
A Lil Boring now.. Yeah it is boring nowadays,i loved it about 4/5 years ago but thast was the time my only console was a Nintendo 64 and i still had better games-Its repetitive just walking into a village, cave or watever and Blowing up,shooting, stabbing and bowing the h£LL out of the human hunters,Dinosaurs,Those little beast monstas or anything,oh it just bores me now.The music gives me a headache, and i get these grenades and i don`t know how to throw them.I set up my N64 again yestaday alongside my PS2 and GameCube as i am boared as i have lended out Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater-my favorite game at the moment. And i have to get 007 GoldenEye back as well which is my Third fave game ever(After Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons Of Liberty).I do not recommend this get 007 GE instead,or if you are a fan of fantasy-magic(MGS is not fantasy magic,it has supernatural things but they are called fantasy in realism, like Jame Bond or the Matrix) go for games like Turok,Resident Evil,Eternal Darkness,DOOM,Quake etc.
If i had to list out my fave. last gen games(PlayStation,Nintendo 64&DreamCast) in any order wud be:
Metal Gear Solid(PS,1998)
007 GoldenEye(N64,1997)
Mission:Impssible(PS1,N64,uhh?)
Rainbow Six(PC,PS1,N64 in 1999)
Super Mario 64(N64,1996)
And i played hundreds of games last gen. they are my top favorite 5.So go for MGS,007 GE,R6 or Missiion:Impssible if you are intersted in a last gen realistic action game.
But a recommend T:DH if you like fantasy.
Amazon.com Turok: Evolution is a prequel that takes us back to the origins of the Turok lineage. In the beginning of the game, we see our hero, Tal'Set, fighting nemesis Captain Tobias Bruckner in 1886 Texas. During the battle, a rift between their world and the Lost Lands opens and Tal'Set is sucked into it.
Features and enhancements to this new installment in the Turok franchise include the groundbreaking Squad Dynamics System (SDS) for realistic enemy and allied squad AI, and an entirely new game engine built to take full advantage of the next-generation hardware platforms. All-new weapons including Variable Payload Cruise Missiles, Gravity Disrupter Beams, and the Swarm Bore--each with unique traits and damage. Flight sequences now enable players to soar through the skies on a winged pteranodon, and scripted event sequences bring the world to life with stunning detail.
Turok: Evolution features 32 types of prehistoric and indigenous life rendered with frightening realism. The game is full of destructible objects and environments: shoot down trees over your enemies and collapse massive rock spires onto dinosaurs. The environments consist of lush, living jungles. Plants move as dinosaurs brush against them while trees sway in the wind. The game also includes stealth- and action-based gameplay directed by context-sensitive, mission-based sequences. Great care was also taken with the multiplayer modes, which were developed by a dedicated team of designers, programmers, and artists.

I played it shortly... ...and I don't play so much shooters, but got this as a present. For me, it has well picked enviroment: prehistoric dino age combined w hi tech lizard humanoids.
It IS difficult, and it has auto save, but if you think for a minute before you start a part of mission, it pays.
It looks like this after first chapter, second one is flying . If I ever beat it, I'll write you with complete impression.
Editorial ReviewWho said sequels are never as good as the original? Acclaim's Turok 2: Seeds of Evil blows that theory right out of the water. In this first-person shooter you will find yourself taking aim at a formidable army of dinosaurs while saving children, freeing prisoners, blowing up enemy ammo dumps, and more. Expect to devote a significant chunk of time to this title: the estimated completion time for this game is 45 hours, which rivals The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in game size. If you tire of a frustrating puzzle in the single-player mode, turn to your buddies to liven things up: Turok 2 offers three different game modes for multiplayer mayhem. --Hugh Arnold
Pros:
Fantastic graphics
Long play time, good replay value
Enormous worlds to explore
Never boring--plenty of challenging enemies and varied missions
Cons:
Graphic violence may be too intense for kids

A GAME THAT IS STILL FUN AND NEEDS TO BE REMADE ON PS2!!!! I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS GAME. I HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WEB PRAISING IT SINCE THE FIRST DAY I GOT A COMPUTER. IF YOU ARE A TRUE GAMER, AND ENJOY A CHALLENGE, THAT NEEDS NOT JUST SKILL WITH A CONTROLLER, BUT INTELLIGENCE, THEN, THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU. I HAVE YET TO PLAY A GAME THAT HAS SOOOOOO MUCH PACKED IN IT. YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE GAME A CHANCE. I WOULD NOT TRADE MINE FOR ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. IT IS SUPERB AND IS COMPARABLE WITH ALL THE NEW PS2 GAMES OUT THERE. I PERSONALLY THINK IT IS BETTER, AND SHOULD SET THE STANDARD FOR ALL FPS. THE WORLDS ARE VAST, AND WONDERFUL TO EXPLORE. THE CHEATS MAKE THE GAME MORE FUN BECAUSE EVEN WITH THEM YOU HAVE TO BE SMART. YOU HAVE TO HAVE GREAT RECALL. I PUT IT UP AGAINST ANY GAME OUT THERE. THE MUSIC IS GREAT, THE LEVELS ARE HUGE AND AWESOME. YOU GET A LOT OF GAME FOR THE MONEY. IT TAKES HOURS TO PLAY AND YOU WILL NOT BEAT IT IN ONE DAY, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT THE CHEATS. FOR THOSE WHO THINK THEY CAN, I DARE YOU TO TRY. HA, YOU WONT GET PAST LEVEL THREE. THE CHEATS ACTUALLY ENHANCE THE GAME PLAY AND YOU HAVE A LOT OF THEM. AS I SAID BEFORE, YOU GET A LOT OF GAME FOR THE MONEY. IT IS FAR BETTER THAN TUROK EVOLUTION..WHEN THEY MADE THIS GAME..THEY OUT DID THEMSELVES. MY HAT IS OFF TO THE GENIOUS'S THAT DID TUROK SEEDS OF EVIL..EXCELLANT. BE PATIENT, GIVE IT A CHANCE, AND DONT THINK THE FIRST LEVEL IS THE WAY THE WHOLE GAME IS,,..EVERY LEVEL/WORLD IS VASTLY DIFFERENT..AND IN SOME PARTS SCARY. THE MUSIC IS GREAT AND ADDS TO THE AMBIENCE. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Almost useless This guide is almost completely useless. I played through Turok without needing the guide and it is a good thing because the guide was poorly put together. No maps, no waypoints or landmarks to tell you where they are talking about in the game.
The only part of the guide I liked were the weapon descriptions.
I would not reccommend this guide to anyone, it is not needed to beat the game and it would be of minimal help anyway.

Where did I come from?? When you start the game you come out of no where... And there you are! And you have to do who know's what! The graphics stink. The story line is the worst I've seen. And how come there is a cave dude who goes around in time and there are rocket launchers! And lots of other things like that like shot-guns and such. And as the other reviewer said about that thing that blows up when it dies. Now just cause this costs 5 bucks doesn't mean you should just buy it! Save up your money for.. the Battle Front and KOTOR games. Those are the best games I've ever played.

Question about game... Can anyone tell me why this received a Mature rating? Was wondering about content, language, gore, etc. Thanks.
Amazon.com ReviewTurok: Dinosaur Hunter's legacy on the Nintendo 64 is undeniable. While the pressures of being both a commercial and (more often than not) a critical success would have tempted series of lesser quality to churn out mediocre sequels, Acclaim has not allowed this to happen. Now with the second "official" sequel (not counting Rage Wars) wreaking havoc in Nintendo land, it's time to see if the legacy is fulfilled.
Visually, this is by far the best in the series. While the graphics on the N64 can only go so far, they're best utilized in the amazing cutscenes displayed throughout. Plus, the action is accompanied by an amazing soundtrack, which greatly enhances the game's atmosphere.
The weapons are basically the same as those in previous Turok games, so things may seem familiar. There are new weapons, but most of them are just upgrades of the current ones you have. The only time that weapon selection will be important is during boss battles, where the rocket launcher packs a bigger punch.
Not only can you save your game anywhere, but you can also continue from many checkpoints throughout the level. As you progress, you will pass checkpoints where the game pauses, and the title of the area appears on the screen. This feature is great, because when you suffer that oh-so-sudden death, you only have to go back as far as the last checkpoint instead of your last (and possibly distant) save.
With the single-player mode thrown back in for the third Turok adventure, the multiplayer mode in Turok 3 doesn't seem to flow as well as it did in Rage Wars. This might be excusable, but with Rare showing how fun a single/multiplayer title can be, not once but twice (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark), it's a bit disappointing. Still, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is a great first-person shooter for Nintendo's aging machine that doesn't embarrass the series. --Todd Mowatt
Pros:
Many gameplay options
Gorgeous graphics and great sound effects
Realistic character and environment physics
Cons:
Game engine slows down in graphic-heavy sections
Enemy AI isn't as good as in the first game of the series

Pretty Good This game is good. But it starts in a COMPLETE different spot then where Turok 2 left off.Overall it is a great game with good graphics(at least for the N64),great gore effects, and a good story. But only buy this if you are an exterme Turok fan like me.If not buy Turok Evolution if you have Xbox,Game Boy Advance,PS2,or Gamecube.3 stars for Turok 3!
