Pitching - To pitch, players simply point the Wii Remote at the screen, pull back to start the pitcher's motion, then flick the Wii Remote forward. The quicker the player flicks the remote, the more velocity and movement the pitch will have. The Nunchuk can be used to view a player’s pitch arsenal and to select which pitch to throw.
Batting - Swinging for the fences with Major League Baseball 2K8 on Wii will provide fans with even more fun when they control the Wii Remote as if they were swinging a real bat. The Nunchuk acts to control the direction of the ball.
Fielding - While controlling their designated player using the Nunchuk, players can snag fly balls and use the Wii Remote to throw to the appropriate base. Players can use Major League Baseball 2K8's "Smart Throw" technology to throw to the best base by simply flicking the Wii Remote or can manually choose which base to throw to by pressing a direction on the directional pad.
Baserunning - Players can control the speed of their baserunning by shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk simultaneously, then pushing both controllers to slide.

if anyone has trouble getting their wii to read the disc save yourself some of the headache that I endured - after returning the first disc of this game thinking it was defective since my wii never would read it and then trying a replacement and having it do the same thing I finally realized that my wii needed a system update in order to play - why it couldn't pop up a notification of that, I don't know.Once I updated my the wii's system firmware it read and played the disc just fine. Just thought I'd put this out there in case any one else is having the same problems.

I thought it was awesome!! I do not see why there are people knocking this game. Why people are saying the graphics are not good. I think they are AMAZING. I have an HD TV and I am viewing them on there and I love the graphics. I have been one who has played the EA versions of football, both NCAA and Madden. I love EA football, BUT, after playing this, I must commend 2k for making a relistic football game. I have not played Madden 08 yet, but from what I have played, since 2000 with Madden, was really no change in graphics or gameplay. Players walking through each other, getting called for stupid penalties, players making unrelistic moves. I loved NCAA football this year, BUT I missed the classic teams, AND also, it is pretty cheezy to leave refs out of the game. If you want realistic gameplay, leaving out refs is not the way to go there.
I felt the realism in 2K was amazing. I did not get the chance to play 2k5, and I know so many felt that was the better football game. And it is probably why EA was granted the NFL license because the NFL could not handle anyone else being better than those they were contracted with. Do I care that there are different non NFL teams???? No. Actually, the NFL is starting to suck big time and I have turned my back so much in wanting to support it. I would love to have a game that has a whole new league. I think 2K should make a USFL game. THAT would be so awesome. There are some USFL fans out there, and it would be a big hit.
I think too many people out there are just spoiled by the greedy NFL and cant appreciate anything less than that. If you cant appreciate the gameplay and the graphics of this game, then you cant appreciate the quality of any game. If this game is so much like NFL 2K5, and people felt that was the best game ever, why cry over how this game is similar to it?? Wouldnt you WANT the game to be similar to what they had before?? If it were different, then THAT would be a disppointment right?? I commend them on keeping the features in the games that people obviously enjoyed. Granted, it would be cool if they made some changes, like adding a franchise mode, giving you more teams to choose from, more legend players, and giving you more options to create uniforms and stadiums.
Give 2k credit. People complaining left and right, is not going to make these people come out with another game and improve anything. It will just make them give you whiners the big finger, and you will all lose out and end up with the same repetitve EA games that have not changed since they were created. I say, be thankful with this game, and appreciate it for what it is. A fantastically fun game, that does not consist of the NFL greed that has plagued sports so greatly today.
I say Kudos to 2K sports for coming out with a NON NFL game. Gives those who are tired of the NFL greed something to enjoy for once without seeing the ruined league gain more money to fix more games for classless cheating teams and players. I enjoyed this game. It was mega fun, and very much worth the money. I would rather put money in the pockets of retired NFL veterans, than the current overpaid cry babies who have no clue what the game is about, and what it means.

Affordable and High Fun Factor No, you can't play with all of the current stars on their current teams,but with the way free agency is these days: no big deal. I wanted to get the most recent installment of Madden as 07 wasn't that great, but 60 bucks! No way! I picked this one up for like 11 bucks and the gameplay is great. Who wouldn't want to play with Steve Young, Roger Craig, and Jerry Rice! Feel free to spend the big bucks on Madden, but I guarantee the fun factor on this one is right up there.

An upgrade from last year ! In the last review I was overly harsh on the game! In this review I give it more credit for being great. It's definitely better than 2k7, but I could not find a dribble move button to shake defenders which makes it difficult to make shots and drive to the lane without being called for a charge. The rest of the game is great with a few small complaints here and there but nothing significant to not recommend it to other gamers. With all that has been said it is a great game worthy of buying until 2k9 gets released in the fall.

Imbarasing well, only buy this if you have a wii, and are obsessed with the NHL, i love my NHL, and i havent had a new one since EA's 01 and 05 on the PS2. well, i go this the day it came out, played one period, and shut it off to go play EA NHL 09 on the XBox. Havent played it since, Graphics, lol, cant even read the writing the graphics are so bad. my teams a what? 85 overall? what? everything looks like 8s with shadows. LOL

Something different :) Before playing this game you will need to keep 2 things in mind, a) this is a fun arcade version of baseball & b)this is DS, not a PS3 or Xbox 360.
I think most of the reviews on the web have been accurate, fun and unique. I also enjoy the fact that I have to master the hitting, just like in baseball advance for the GBA, which I though set it apart from most baseball games I have played where you just had to press a button to hit the ball(boring).
I will say that I would not recommend this to a younger child (they should stick with backyard baseball 09, which also is an excellent game), as a teen or older is more the target audience for this title.
I would defintily recommend picking up this title, unless you want a true baseball sim, keep waiting or buy a PSP and grab a copy of the MLB the show.....

Best B-ball game on the planet!!! Let me start off by saying I've been a advocate of live since the begining. Never played any of the 2k series until this year. What made me get the game was that I was so dissapointed in live 09. I mean the freestlye control is really no control what so ever. The game is to choppy which means its crap compared to 2k9. In 2k9 you have total control over what your player does offensivly and defensivly and the graphics are very good also...very detailed. Gameplay is very smooth I mean its everything you could ask for in a true hoop game. Live09 ya'll need to get in the lab and get busy asap...your graphics are good and player dna could be something..but you are missing the most important aspect which is game play. I've moved on 2k9 is where I'm at from now until....

NBA 2K9 awesome game as usuall but online doesnt work, that brings value way down in my opinion because i bought it to play online, hopefully they will fix the servers soon. Its great to play w/ friends but no online right now limits your fun a lot
