Worth your gold! Nelson DeMille's The Gold Coast is my favorite DeMille book. John Sutter is a local lawyer with a somewhat kooky wife from old money. In walks a mobster who buys the mansion next door even as Sutter's wife's family can't afford the upkeep on their old pile ofstone.
The narrative pits Sutter more against himself than the mobster as the two spar over odd issues as well as Sutter's wife. But Sutter has pluck and finds his way through the morass of double dealing old money folk and crooked gangsters alike. The Best Excercise and Eating Plan for Health and Weight Loss I've been working at a national cooking magazine for 13 years and I thought I knew what kinds of food was good for my health. This book has been an eye opener! I'd been suffering from lots of food cravings and was eating all the time, even when I wasn't hungry. Needless to say, I was packing on the pounds. After reading the book, I switched to whole grain pasta and bread and consciously ate more whole foods like vegetables, potatoes, legumes, and lean meats. I don't worry about portion control because whole foods fill you up more quickly and takes longer to digest, so you don't get hungry as quickly. I sourced out local, organic vegetables and pasture-raised, natural meats and switched to organic milk. Combined with the easy-to-do, low-impact excercise plan (40 minutes, two or three times a week. All you need is a step up bench and five-pound hand weights), I've lost 14 pounds in a few months and went from a size 12 to size 6 (I also started doing yoga, which I love). This could be Maxwell's Best!!! I make it a point to read everything John Maxwell writes, and I have to be honest that the last few have left me wanting, a bit. Not Leadership Gold. This book could be Maxwell's best ever! I amcurrently taking a half dozen leaders through it chapter by chapter. Maxwell displays of level of authenticity and ease of reading that are just great! Poorly organized, weakly supported. This books covers a lot of interesting territory. Unfortunately it does so in a haphazard and totally unplanned manner. The author is clearly very good at generating the written word. He is unfortunately not very good at actually planning what he's going to write about or why. This makes it very difficult to stick with the book until the (phew!) end. Also, this book is largely unsupported by other sources. There are VERY occasional notes thrown in there to make it look like he actually based this book on existing knowledge. But don't get me wrong: I very much appreciate the author's attempt to synthesize all of these disparate literatures. But I fear it was done sloppily, perhaps because of time pressure to get the book out there? Or perhaps because the author prefers to just plain write rather than to slow down in order check and cite other sources? Overall an interesting idea for a book that is unfortunately poorly organized and weakly supported.
Although much narrower in scope, I much prefer the wonderfully-written and well-planned book "The Marketplace of Revolution" by T.H. Breen. Breen cares enough about his readers to put painstaking effortinto writing a quality book.
Excellent novel This book was fascinating to me. It is a great depiction of historical events that I had not really known about regarding the Mexican people. It is very sad to see what an idyllic, beautiful and simple life these people had only to have it shattered by the revolution. Their beautiful and simple existence became a fight for life and a future of being treated like dirt by soldiers in their own country and by the U.S. when they tried to go someplace else. A "MUST HAVE" if you are a Beginning Gold Investor I cannot recommend this book enough if you are planning on investing in gold. It is perfect for a Beginner. This book is well written, organized with a wealth of information, and very easy to read.
Mr Kosares, who has over 30 years experience in investing gold, gives very good reasons why you may want to invest 10-30% of your portfolio in gold, what form of gold to buy, what to look for as you find a gold firm to purchase from, how to try and prevent the US government from confiscating gold from you as FDR did in 1933, objectively compares gold vs. silver investment, what has to be reported to the IRS, how gold is a winner during inflationary and deflationary times, etc etc.
There is a lot to know about gold investment, and this book is a very good road map to investing in gold successfully. I highly recommend this book. Add a Review

I'm all about gold - too many details in this book however I'm simply an average joe looking to preserve wealth from the coming inflation in the US dollar. This book did indeed help me understand central banking and how a gold standard can work. However, it contained way too many details with dates and years of various historical events.
What I really wanted, was a book that could help me conceptually understand the commodity of gold in an easy to read format. All in all I appreciated the book and am glad I read it. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this more had I read "The Coming Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It" first as it did not dive into obscure details of historical events. Add a Review
