The frontman and lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury died in 1991. As a songwriter, Mercury was responsible for 10 of the 16 songs on Queen's Greatest Hits Album. Stunningly detailed, this poseable Freddie action figure comes with a microphone and stand and "plays" a medley of classic Queen hits including 'We Will Rock You', 'Radio Ga Ga' and 'We Are The Champions'.
REVIEW
Cool I found out this was being sold at the mall, and they only had one in stock, so i called the store up and told them to hold it for me, and i arrived there 5 minutes till 9pm, right before it closed, to pick it up.
I was very excited to get this. Once i got it, the lady at the store asked " So youre into Queen too , huh? "
She went on to tell me that when she heard they had them , she had to put one aside for herself, and how she saw Queen in 1978 and her father got her the opprotunity to meet Freddie Mercury.
Ringing me up at the register, another store employee remarked, "Big Queen fan ?"
...I couldnt affirm more.
Getting this out of the box took a little time, since its tied up with plastic twisters pretty well.
Its painted pretty good, with minor imperfections i dont even notice. Might vary with each figure. But its nothing bad. And its ok for something thats around 30 or 40 bucks.
I wish the legs could of been posable , and i wish you could position him in the famous Wembly stance, that youll see on Wembly dvds and posters. It just embodies the sheer power Freddie Mercury has, as an awesome musician/singer.
BUT, you can raise up the figure's arm, and be creative with the microphone and try to re-inact signature poses.
You can move his head up , as he does when ever looks up into the heavens.
Or down , like he does while gazeing into the eyes of the endless ocean of fans below him.
The figure does has a switch to hear brief clips from 3 songs.... We are The Champions ... We Will Rock You
And ...Radio GaGa....
...ya...i dont know either...why Radio GaGa?
Save it for the LIVE AID Freddie figure! thats where that song was probubly most famous. (Since i heard they stole the show with that song and was a historic moment)
Thats one of the things i kinda thought was dissapointing is that it doesnt play any sound bites from the Wembly concert, becouse that would of been amazing. And i have the dvd, so i know theres lots of things they could of used, not to mention times when Freddie humored the crowd or tested everyones vocal ability against his own.
Songs i would of liked to hear would of been "One vision" or even "A Kind Of Magic", insted of "radio gaga" and also live concert versions of the 'WeWillRockYou' and 'WeAreTheChampions' songs from the Wembly magic show.
I give it 3 stars becouse of lack of posablity and the all too brief song bite medly, that doesnt showcase actual sounds from the Wembly show, let alone the Magic Tour , it self.
Plus, i just remember that it says it has "motion activated sound", but the only motion activation i can see, is my finger pressing the switch up.
Its still cool how you can now get a Freddie Mercury figure , that has a decent likeness to the man ( who is my greatest inspiration for singing, and favorite singer period)
I just felt they kinda put it together half-heartedly. But im not going to just complain, cuz you cant make everyone happy and atleast they have something like this....
Another thing...it says it comes with a STAND...
I never found a stand with the action figure or anything...
That wasnt in my box atleast and it was brandnew. So, i dunno.
But i can stand him up anyway without a stand, but its easy for the figure to fall over. Its done it a coupletimes, when i posed the right fist up above its head and the other arm with the microphone down.
The microphone part itself, of the half mic stand can be moved back and forth, and it can detach too. I found that out when it fell, and it was missing for a minute, though it didnt break.
Its worth getting if you cant yet afford a life size Mercury statue or dont have the room for one,
Its my closest thing to a statue ,of sorts, in honor of Freddie Mercury, my favorate singer of all time.
If you can afford it and really like Freddie Mercury and Queen, buy one.
Hes the first action figure ive had in a VERY LONG time lol.
With the powerful, sinister Black Hole (a.k.a.Professor DarknessTM) intent on destroying the solar system, a day seldom passes without the discovery of some new danger or disaster about to strike at the inhabitants of the peaceful planets. When a message or warning needs to streak across the galaxy faster than the speed of light, Mercurys Zip is the Planet Heroes go-to guy. He uses his blinding speed to disarm the enemies of the universe or deflect a rogue asteroid hurtling towards catastrophe. If a spaceship has lost contact and wandered into danger in the next millennium, its just a quick trip for Mercury Zip!
Recalled = High Prices First off, this figure is not that hard to find on the big auction site. Paying More than $[...] for one is CRAZY. With that said, this figure *should* go up in value, but ONLY because it was recalled by the estate and not for it's glorious detail.
The figure is based on Freddie from the video's "Fat Bottomed Girls" and "Don't Stop Me Now". The jacket being from the latter. The Freddie Mercury estate were NOT happy and never gave final approval before it was shipped. They gave NECA a cease and desist and all of the figures were supossed to be recalled to be destroyed.
Some made it out alive. I own two of these and I prefer them over the "Wembley" figure NECA made first. If you want it cheaper, don't buy it here.
An action figure captures the "Zen Master of Speed!" Keeping a cranky, watchful eye on his young ward Impulse, the septuagenarian speedster stands 6.5" tall with eleven points of articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles) and may be placed in a running position on a base featuring the Flash insignia.
