Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 review

Tiger Woods Golf is the reason I bought a Wii

This game is the most realistic my family has come across. Even the Wii 'Players' we've created look like us!

We enjoyed the golf game in the Sports package that came initially with our Wii but were blown away by all the features on the Tiger Woods edition and I doubt we will bo back to the other.

All in all, I found the game play pretty fun and accurate to the real thing and game moved along quite nicely. I appreciate the departure from the "double tap" or in the case of the PS2/3 moving the analog stick "back to front" aspect of traditional golf games. There were a couple things I didn't like (which are described below), but I think it gets an B+ for a good attempt.

Pros:
- first golf game that really feels like you're playing golf
- fairly accurate motion sensitivity with the Wii remote - very forgiving (and if you're slicing or pulling the ball, you're probably not square at contact - just like in real golf)
- Wii remote distinguishes your swing when doing a full swing (hands are quiet) and when doing a short chip shot onto the green (hands not so quiet as you use your wrists more to "pop" the ball)
- game play moved along nicely (I completed my first 18 holes at Pebble Beach in about 1/2hr)
- game strategy is consistent with all other golf video games (e.g. ball control in the wind, your lie will determine correct club selection for a suitable distance, shaping shots with fades/draws)

Cons:
- Issue with fades and draws for leftys (works fine in PGA Tour mode, but not single play mode)? I'm a lefty and found during the tutorial that even though I configured my settings for a lefty swing, fades were occurring with my hands turned in (closed club face - which in real life is a draw) and draws when I had my hands were out (open face - real life is a fade). Not sure if anyone is having this problem - so I factor this in by doing it backwards and it works fine.
- reading putts should include a practice power meter. Obviously the Putt Preview helps, but that feels like cheating. The power meter is functional for all other clubs, why not the putter as well?
- should have on-line competitions (if it doesn't already....I didn't see it)
