MLB 08 The Show PS3 Opinion

2K is a rushed turd while The Show delivers!

I've been a 2Ksports gamer forever. I started with 2k5 World Series Edition and never looked back. When "The Show" franchise was introduced, for some reason it seemed more "Arcade-y" than my precious 2k, what with Joe Morgan and Jon Miller's commentary, 2K seemed the more "official" option.

Fortunately, my 3rd (and final) multiple-hour updating of the 2k7 rosters was erased (for the 2nd time) and I decided to give MLB '06 a shot. What I quickly discovered was the ball and player physics/mechanics that I had been so struggling to adjust on the 2K franchise.

The best thing about sports based video games is that they are essentially timeless. Surely, the rosters are relevant, but a game with great ball-movement physics will stand the test of time. The Show has remarkably better ball mechanics. With 2K, you were always fighting the homer, as the ball physics were primed for fly balls. There were virtually NO realistic foul balls ever hit in 2K. This was a fundamental flaw with the pitching/contact mechanic that made the game very frustrating. This is where MLB has picked it up, and it greatly increases the quality of the game. The unfortunate thing for 2K, is that they have also dropped the ball in almost every other category. The only thing that they have going for them is Joe Morgan and Jon Miller.

2k8 is a rushed turd that offers ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, especially for a gamer like myself who thrives on realism and had spent HOURS creating the right rosters and making players such as Daisuke Matsuzaka obtain some degree of realism (which I did to, if any poor 2k suckers want the slider info, i will gladly share it). The Show '08 has ALL of the relevant players physical movement wonderfully reproduced. Are you still actually reading this? Well then know, that as an extreme baseball video game dork, MLB '08 The Show is "THE BEST" baseball video game ever.
