The Arizona Senate today shot down bill #HB2660, a bill introduced by F. Keith Perkins which aimed hold accountable those who profit by wrongdoing, including works that encourage and instruct how to commit violent and obscene acts, such as how-to videos on rape.
Digging deeper into the bill Perkins suggests that a vague blanket protection for victims is the answer to their safety. Unfortunately if the Arizona senate had been smoking enough crack to actually pass this bill, the vagueness of "how to commit violent and obscene acts" could have meant the authors of video games which depict acts of violence and show the users how to commit those acts would also be liable for the crimes committed by the insane crackheads out there killing people every day.
The defense of "Tom Clancy made me do it" would effectively give the victims an easy outlet for financial compensation from the authors.
It's a good thing the Arizona Senate chose to uphold the constitution of the United States and vote against this fuckjob and throw his shitty bill in the toilet, where it needs to be.
I'm all for protecting victims of violent crime, but attacking free speech isn't going to make the world any safer.
