ScubaCore - Kona, Hawaii: Red Hot and Kona
25 min - Jan 26, 2008
The word "Hawaii" evokes images of grass skirts and hula-hoops, but as divers, we think of manta rays and lava tubes. Rising majestically out of the ocean floor, the volcanic Hawaiian Islands are relatively young on a geological scale, and they're isolated from other landmasses. The lava that flows out of the active volcanoes Kilauea and Mauna Loa constantly transforms the "Big Island" of Hawaii, and beneath the waves the ever-evolving lava tubes are an indication of how dynamic the topology is. The unique marine architecture is a rocky terrain blanketed in hard corals; it's bountiful with marine life. You'll notice the big boulders and underwater arches: they were chunks of lava just a few geological seconds ago, and they even look freshly made. The Kona coast is home to a group of mantas, while surgeonfish, butterflyfish and several species of eels find shelter on the hard coral reefs. This episode of ScubaCore is filmed aboard the Kona Aggressor, the only liveaboard dive boat that operates in this area. The DVD purchase of this title contains Bali, Indonesia, Red Hot & Kona, The Emerald Garden, and The Ocian Blue ScubaCore Dive Portraits.

Bali is a magical place, with a deep history and friendly people, and its cultural treasures are well known. Divers often travel through Bali on their way to destinations such as Komodo and Wakatobi, but they don't always dive in Bali. There's so much to do, see and taste in Bali that the sensory overload topside can overshadow the diving. Balinese culture is unique in Indonesia, and you can see temples, art, traditional villages, dance performances, volcanoes, lakes, and rice fields...of course only if you drag yourself away from the beach ? where you can surf, get a massage and eat all kinds of fresh tropical fruit. Join host Anat Grant as she dives with her friends from AquaMarine Diving ? Bali, and see how in about a week you can tour Bali's sites and still dive all around the island, from muck dives in chilly Secret Bay to the famous Liberty wreck at Tulamben, to high voltage drift dives at Nusa Penida and the three "Gilis." There's also a special section on the luxurious boutique hotels that you can find in Bali, so that you can enjoy being in the lap of luxury while on a diving safari. The DVD purchase of this title contains Bali, Indonesia, Red Hot & Kona, The Emerald Garden, and The Ocian Blue ScubaCore Dive Portraits.

ScubaCore - Costa Rica: The Emerald Garden
24 min - Jan 26, 2008
Central America's green and friendly "Rich Coast," or Costa Rica, is one of the best places on earth to be close to nature. It's everywhere: the trees, the ocean, the mountains and lakes; everything seems to resonate a oneness with nature that you won't find elsewhere. The national motto is "ĄPura Vida!" which translates to "Pure Life!" and you'll find that the people of Costa Rica really believe in the value of their environmental bounty. Diving on Costa Rica's Pacific side is not your typical blue-water-coral-reef experience. It's a rocky reef structure, with gorgonians and some hard coral patches. The water is full of plankton and nutrients that can limit visibility, but draw in the plentiful marine life. It's easy to combine diving and land-based sightseeing here. In this ScubaCore show you'll see local dive sites near Playa Hermosa, and also some farther ones like Catalinas and Bat Islands. After a week of adventure diving, Anat and Rachel head to the mountains for rainforest tours of Arenal and Monterverde. The DVD purchase of this title contains Bali, Indonesia, Red Hot & Kona, The Emerald Garden, and The Ocian Blue ScubaCore Dive Portraits.

ScubaCore - Turks and Caicos: The Ocean Blue
30 min - Jan 26, 2008
Gin clear and blue, the water invites us to jump in like some giant swimming pool where you can see the bottom from almost any vantage point, even though it's at least 60 feet away! The fish are not shy, and out beyond the wall, in the blue, a spotted eagle ray will invariably make an appearance. The Turks & Caicos Explorer hosted the ScubaCore crew for a week of archetypical Caribbean diving in crystal clear blue water. Some of the walls here are gradually sloping, and some drop off into thousands of feet of water. Deep-water gorgonians, corals, and sponges grow on the walls like vines on the side of an old building, and the eagle rays soar by like pterodactyl-inspired fantasies. Groupers in cleaning stations are plentiful, nestled on top of sponges or under ledges. On top of the reef, stingrays, hamlets and turtles are common sights. When the visibility is this good, it's easy to just relax, hang out, explore, and enjoy the view. The DVD purchase of this title contains Bali, Indonesia, Red Hot & Kona, The Emerald Garden, and The Ocian Blue ScubaCore Dive Portraits.
