Turok Review This game is by far the worst game I have ever played. It is very unbalanced and forces the player to repeat sections over and over unless done perfectly right. This game is not fun to play and not that great to look at either. If you are thinking about getting this game, pass on it. Rainbow 6, Call of Duty, Bioshock and Halo3 are all much better games Add a Review

Hard not to throw the controller across the room! Turok sucks! Period. The save points are horrendous. The graphics are not up to par for next gen. The enemies are faster than oyu and never miss when they shoot at you. When you get hit, the screen goes blurry and by the time you get your bearings, you're dead. The weapons are outright lame. It takes so many shots to take down enemy soldiers. If you like FPSers like COD4, Resistance, and Bad Company, you will hate this game. Everythin g that makes those games great is utterly absent from Turok. What a waste. Frustrating beyond belief. Add a Review

Editorial ReviewWho said sequels are never as good as the original? Acclaim's Turok 2: Seeds of Evil blows that theory right out of the water. In this first-person shooter you will find yourself taking aim at a formidable army of dinosaurs while saving children, freeing prisoners, blowing up enemy ammo dumps, and more. Expect to devote a significant chunk of time to this title: the estimated completion time for this game is 45 hours, which rivals The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in game size. If you tire of a frustrating puzzle in the single-player mode, turn to your buddies to liven things up: Turok 2 offers three different game modes for multiplayer mayhem. --Hugh Arnold
Pros:
Fantastic graphics
Long play time, good replay value
Enormous worlds to explore
Never boring--plenty of challenging enemies and varied missions
Cons:
Graphic violence may be too intense for kids

Dinozoids Beware This is probably one of the best games for the 64--if you own a 64 and you like fps then you really should get this game.
I remember all the hype for this game when it came out, and when I finally picked up my own copy I was not disappointed.
The graphics are stunning (for the 64). Everything in this game looks great. One things that really stands out in this game are the death animations--no other 64 game can match this. Children probably shouldn't play this game because it is quite violent and gory. You can blow off heads, arms, legs, holes in chests etc. while blood spurts out all over the place.
The AI is pretty good and makes the game challenging.
The levels are long, which is both a plus and minus. Some of the levels were just a bit too long. At least there is a lot of variety though. The levels all look different and there are different enemies in them. One great part of the game was when you could ride this huge dinosaur around blowing your enemies away with these huge guns, or just running them over.
One level I hated was the "lair of the blind ones." That level was just too long (probably because it was just so annoying).
There are a lot of good weapons in this game, my favorite is the shotgun--using explosive shells. That was one thing I liked about this game--there were different ways to shoot someof the weapons because you had different rounds you could use with some of the weapons. Good stuff.
The multiplayer was incredibly fun for the time with lots of different weapons and levels to play with. However, when I went back to play multiplayer recently I noticed that it was incredibly slow... I guess this multiplayer can't stand up with Call of Duty 2 etc. : ) Every once in a while I will go back and play my favorite levels again (just like I do with Goldeneye 64). Add a Review
What seemed at first to be a simple mission has turned into a deadly game of survival. You are Joseph Turok, an ex-member of Wolf Pack, the most savage, merciless black ops squad of its time. Now you have been given a special order from Whiskey Company, an elite commando team, to capture and detain Roland Kane from his fortress on a worthless, backwater planet. Kane is an escaped war criminal, the once-legendary leader of Wolf Pack...and your former mentor. But Kane is in command of a secret paramilitary force funded by the Mendel-Gruman (M-G) Corporation. When your ship approaches the planet, you are blasted out of the sky by Kane's troops. Now you are stranded in a dangerous world. Vicious prehistoric beasts of all shapes and sizes roam the terrain, attacking anything that moves. Your teammates are either killed or scattered. Ruthless M-G forces are hunting the ones who are not dead. You have no weapons. How will you survive?

TUROK-O-BOMB-A: Leading FPS candidate for 2008? Is Turok the leading FPS candidate this year? Is Turoka BOMB (slang...to fail miserably) NO to each, but there is some fun to be had here. I like FPS's and Dinosaurs so I had to try this out. Here are my first impressions after playing about 6 hours:
Quite high minimum system requirements
Comes on 2 DVD's, 18 Gigs hard drive space (biggest yet I've played), Win XP or Vista, 2.4 GHz Pentium or AMD Athlon 3400 equiv., 1 GB RAM, 128mb Direct X 9.0c, 3D video card (nVidia 6600 or better or ATI Radeon x1300 or better, excluding X1550), onboard integrated chipsets are not supported. 16 bit Direct X 9.0c sound card, 8xDVDROM drive. Does not use Direct X-10
Borrows significantly from better FPS's such as Far Cry, Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R.
Enemies with armored black suits and red eyes. Companion sniper (like Alex in Half-Life 2) picking off enemy soldiers and dinosaurs. Jungles, buildings, citadel settings, etc. Helicopter unloading soldiers from ropes.
What I liked
-Dinosaur modeling and movement is quite nice. Fast little & big buggers. Most have mean, "dinosaurish" sounds.
-Variety of weaponry with fairly goodsounds and handling. Can use double weapons (eg. shotgun in each hand). Most weapons have dual use or alternate fire (eg. shotgun with shotgun or flare blast . Modern weapons and sci-fi types.
-Flare blast near/at enemy soldiers can lure dinos to them.
-Stealth killing enemies with the big Bowie Knife.
-Perforator bow with regular and tek (grenade) arrows. Silent, deadly.
-Nicely done "cloudy" cut scenes showing how Turok initially learned his combat skills.
-Good Native American accent (in English not Kiowa) & voice-actingfor Turok .Big muscles, mean-looking too. One tough dude with Mohawk haircut.
-Large and varied environments, however, the graphics are only medium quality throughout. Sound and ambience is pretty good.
Didn't like
-High-priced software
-very long load-times even on my high-end computer
-unbalanced "checkpoint" save system. Some are too easy and short & others are too long & difficult requiring repeating the stage over and over
-Video clip repetition in showing the same dino kill per specie s when Turok uses the "left-mouse button display" for the one stab knife kill. Doesn't feel like you are part of the action when this happens. Neat the first few times but not so great thereafter.
-Belligerent and "smart-mouthed" companion mercenary (Slade) who would rather "trash talk" to you than do his fair share of dinosaur/ enemy killing. The sniper companion does a better job than Slade at helping out.
-Some stages do not have any dinosaurs and just battling enemy soldiers is quite average.
-Rag-doll effects aren't too great.
Summary
I'm having good fun with this title and will complete it. It isn't the best nor the worst FPS and I'd score it in the 70's on a 1-100 scale so far. With 18 GIGs it's likely to be a longer FPS than others. The DINOSAURS are what makes this game somewhat more unique than other shooters Add a Review

Almost useless This guide is almost completely useless. I played through Turok without needing the guide and it is a good thing because the guide was poorly put together. No maps, no waypoints or landmarks to tell you where they are talking about in the game.
The only part of the guide I liked were the weapon descriptions.
I would not reccommend this guide to anyone, it is not needed to beat the game and it would be of minimal help anyway. Add a Review

Where did I come from?? When you start the game you come out of no where... And there you are! And you have to do who know's what! The graphics stink. The story line is the worst I've seen. And how come there is a cave dude who goes around in time and there are rocket launchers! And lots of other things like that like shot-guns and such. And as the other reviewer said about that thing that blows up when it dies. Now just cause this costs 5 bucks doesn't mean you should just buy it! Save up your money for.. the Battle Front and KOTOR games. Those are the best games I've ever played. Add a Review
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter's legacy on the Nintendo 64 is undeniable. While the pressures of being both a commercial and (more often than not) a critical success would have tempted series of lesser quality to churn out mediocre sequels, Acclaim has not allowed this to happen. Now with the second "official" sequel (not counting Rage Wars) wreaking havoc in Nintendo land, it's time to see if the legacy is fulfilled.
Visually, this is by far the best in the series. While the graphics on the N64 can only go so far, they're best utilized in the amazing cutscenes displayed throughout. Plus, the action is accompanied by an amazing soundtrack, which greatly enhances the game's atmosphere.
The weapons are basically the same as those in previous Turok games, so things may seem familiar. There are new weapons, but most of them are just upgrades of the current ones you have. The only time that weapon selection will be important is during boss battles, where the rocket launcher packs a bigger punch.
Not only can you save your game anywhere, but you can also continue from many checkpoints throughout the level. As you progress, you will pass checkpoints where the game pauses, and the title of the area appears on the screen. This feature is great, because when you suffer that oh-so-sudden death, you only have to go back as far as the last checkpoint instead of your last (and possibly distant) save.
With the single-player mode thrown back in for the third Turok adventure, the multiplayer mode in Turok 3 doesn't seem to flow as well as it did in Rage Wars. Thismight be excusable, but with Rare showing how fun a single/multiplayer title can be, not once but twice (GoldenEye, Perfect Dark), it's a bit disappointing. Still, Turok 3:
